Ford Transit Crankshaft & Bearing Failure

Ford Transit Crankshaft and Bearing Failure

Main bearings support the crankshaft, while big-end bearings support the connecting rods on the crankshaft journals. Problems can develop through wear, oil starvation, contamination or other mechanical faults.

Symptoms may include deep knocking noises, low oil pressure, metal particles in the oil or filter, and severe engine vibration. Similar symptoms can have other causes and require proper diagnosis.

Why does it matter?
A damaged bearing can mark or overheat the crankshaft journal. In severe cases, the connecting rod, crankshaft or block may also be damaged.

Reconditioning process
Our specification includes replacement main and big-end bearings, with the crankshaft polished or reground as required. The block is crack-tested and the engine is cleaned and decoked before assembly.

Repair versus replacement
The right choice depends on the condition of the crankshaft, block and other components, along with repair costs and availability. Transit Tech can provide a reconditioned engine quote for your Ford Transit.

Engine prices exclude VAT and fitting. A usable exchange engine is required or a £250 + VAT surcharge applies. Six-month unlimited-mileage warranty subject to written terms.
