Ford Transit Engine Overheating
Ford Transit Engine Overheating
An overheating Ford Transit can suffer cylinder-head, gasket, piston or other internal damage if driven while excessively hot. The cause should be diagnosed before fitting a repaired or replacement engine.
Possible causes
• Low coolant or leaks.
• Faulty thermostat or cooling fan.
• Water pump or radiator problems.
• Cooling-system restrictions.
• Head gasket or other internal faults.
What should you do?
Stop safely, switch off the engine and allow it to cool. Never remove a pressurised coolant cap while hot. Arrange inspection or recovery if overheating is severe or recurring.
What if the engine is damaged?
A workshop may check for coolant leaks, combustion gases in the cooling system, cylinder-head damage and other faults. Depending on the results, a repair or reconditioned engine may be appropriate.
Transit Tech can discuss engine supply only or supply and fit. Our rebuilding specification includes a pressure-tested cylinder head, new head gasket, crack-tested block and new internal components.
Prices exclude VAT and fitting. A usable exchange engine is required or a £250 + VAT surcharge applies. Six-month unlimited-mileage warranty subject to written terms.
